Safety and Performance: The Twin Pillars of EV Innovation

Explore the framework we use to test automotive batteries in all stages of the battery journey to ensure optimum safety and performance.

As the e-mobility sector rapidly evolves, it’s essential to look back at the rigorous foundation of it all: the automotive sector. The high stakes of passenger and commercial transport have always set the gold standard for battery system safety and reliability, and at Acculon Labs, we bring that same “automotive-grade” scrutiny to every project. We are deeply involved in all stages of the battery journey, from initial electrochemical characterization to high-voltage pack validation, ensuring that as the world moves toward electrification, the power source remains the most dependable component of the application.

Concept and Design:

Prototype and new cell benchmark testing for cell selections.

Exhaustive performance testing is required within the cell selection process. Typically, several cells are in contention for the final product and must be benchmarked against each other to find the best performer.

BMS Development:

Focused characterization testing aligned with vehicle needs.

Our testing focuses on the intricate relationship between the Battery Management System (BMS) and the vehicle’s unique operational needs. We provide the critical data necessary for state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) algorithm tuning to maximize efficiency and longevity.

Pack testing:

Durability and validation testing at the pack level.

Pack-level testing takes what was gained at the cell level and applies it to the entire application. Packs are put through rigorous performance testing to prove that they meet the requirements of the automaker.

Thermal Management:

Pack thermal management replicating in vehicle systems.

All packs are different, and as part of that, thermal management varies greatly. Our engineers work to ensure that even in a laboratory environment, the thermal management replicates as close to the real thing as possible.

Teardowns:

Construction analysis of new systems and post-analysis of failed packs.

In-Depth Construction Analysis: We perform detailed teardowns of new systems to evaluate manufacturing quality and design architecture. For failed packs, our forensic approach identifies the precise mechanism of failure, providing actionable insights to improve future designs and mitigate risks.

If you don’t leave your battery performance to chance, partner with Acculon Labs to ensure your power system not only meets your application’s requirements, but the highest standards of safety and quality as well.
